Belmopan | March 8th, 2016
The Belize Progressive Party declares that until such time that Guatemala
A. Drops their unfounded claim and;
B. Recognizes the borders of Belize. The following resolutions should be adopted with immediate effect by the Government of Belize;
In accordance with Section 29:3 of the Belize Constitution, No Guatemalan citizen shall hereafter be granted Belizean citizenship.
Implementation and strict adherence to immigration and customs procedures at all informal border crossings with Guatemala.
Ban the free entry of all Guatemalan maritime vessels into Belizean waters.
Ban the importation of Guatemalan products into Belize.
Ban Guatemalan citizens and corporations from owning property and/or interests in any business in Belize.
Apply eminent domain for the re-possession of all land along the Sarstoon River that has been privately owned for more than 10 years without development. Open an all weather road to the banks of the Sarstoon for the establishment agricultural communities by Born Belizeans. Preference shall be given to Belizeans who have never held a piece of land.
Enact military draft legislation to obligate a minimum, 12 month, compulsory service in defence of the nation, by every Belizean upon reaching the age of 18. Allow for the military training of all able bodied Belizeans who are willing to serve via volunteer guard service.
Repeal the Maritimes Areas Act, as it is remains on our books, despite being rejected by the Guatemalan Congress.
Rescind the adjacency zone agreement: Guatemala has never respected this OAS proposal and it has only served to weaken Belize’s sovereignty over its territory.
Rescind the Compromis and Amendment altogether, for it is the premier example of the failed PUDP “4A Policy” of: APPEASEMENT, ACQUIESCENCE, ACCOMMODATION and ADHERENCE.
