PRESS RELEASE | “BPP Response to Failed GOB/Guat Meeting at the OAS”

“BPP Response to Failed GOB/Guat Meeting at the OAS”
The Belize Progressive Party is calling on all Belizeans, at home and abroad and all friends of Belize, to say enough of the empty denials, the trivializing and the inaction of Government in addressing what is, perhaps, the most serious aggression by Guatemala in recent years.
This call has become necessary because we can no longer rely on the PUDP stated commitment that they are the “professionals” to deal with Guatemala’s increasing aggression with respect to the territorial claim.
The BPP categorically denounces the farce of a meeting held in Washington with the Organization of American States (OAS) on the 12th of March, when the Belize delegation did not place the best interest of the nation as paramount, and fundamentally excused the egregious violation by the Guatemalans against our sovereignty.
Most disturbing is the report by Minister Elrington of the Belize Government’s intent to amend Belize’s Referendum Act, which would fundamentally change the dynamic of taking Guatemala's unfounded claim to the ICJ, by requiring only a simple majority of one.
The BPP describes this as not only untenable and unconscionable, but treasonous. Especially since that demand was the one put forward by the former President of Guatemala, Otto Perez Molina.
The BPP therefore calls on all Belizeans, especially the unions, churches, chamber of commerce and the NGOs, to rise up and challenge this failed PUDP “4A Policy” of: APPEASEMENT, ACQUIESCENCE, ACCOMMODATION and ADHERENCE to Guatemala’s demands.
Moreover, we demand that all who are party to the mismanagement of Belize’s national security, shall be held accountable for treason.
The BPP further re-submits its 10 Point Prescription to the people toward addressing Guatemala’s aggression and the collusion of the Belize Government in advancing their pro-ICJ agenda.
The BPP recommends that a massive demonstration be held on a date appropriate to the commemoration of the untimely death of Special Constable Danny Conorquie, in defence of this nation.
The time to save Belize is before the PUDP summarily hands the country over to Guatemala!
