BPP MEETS BREDAA IN LOS ANGELES

Press Release

Representatives of the Belize Rural Economic Development of Agriculture through Alliance (BREDAA) in Los Angeles, Nuri Akbar Estrada and Bilal Morris, met with the Belize Progressive Party (BPP) political leader, Patrick Rogers from Belize on Sunday April 3, 2016 at Mars Caribbean Gardens in Gardena, California.

The meeting highlighted discussions pertaining to the recent Guatemalan military aggression and annexation on the Belize Sarstoon River and Island, the issues surrounding the taking of the Guatemalan claim to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), BPP’s official position on the issue, and ways forward of forging corporations between the two organizations in addressing critical issues confronting the country of Belize.

The BREDAA representatives presented areas of corporation in terms of how Belizeans in the diaspora, especially in the Los Angeles area that has the largest concentration of Belizeans abroad, and also where Belizeans are the largest black immigrant group, can be engaged towards peaceful and constructive participation for the development and defense of Belize, and to lend meaningful assistance against the Guatemalan Claim. Discussions were also directed towards the Belizean diaspora playing a more instrumental role in the lobbying of the centers of power in the United States to draw awareness to the Guatemalan aggression against the nation state of Belize.

The grassroots organization BREDAA has thirty-one years of activism and representation of the Belizean people in the diaspora, and has become a vanguard for the championing of Belizean rights in the diaspora through many programs such as town meetings addressing the Belize / Guatemalan Dispute, the Belize diaspora vote, and dissemination of information and popular education on Belize in the South Central Los Angeles area.

The two day series of meetings between BPP’s Rogers and BREDAA’s Estrada and Morris, culminated with an exclusive video interview with BPP”s political leader, Patrick Rogers, that would be aired on social media, KPFK, Los Angeles, Internet Radio in Los Angeles, and other media houses in Belize.
