“BPP & BTV Extends Heartfelt Labour Day Wishes”
Your Belize Progressive Party (BPP), along with the Belize Territorial Volunteers (BTV) extends heartfelt Labour Day wishes to every Belizean, both at home and abroad. Irrespective of whether you are partially employed, fully employed or unemployed, we hope the very same spirit of determination and productivity which inspired great Belizean labour organisers, such as Antonio Soberanis, shall be rekindled in one and all. Amid the recent, willful and despotic action taken by the Prime Minister to stifle the free movement of ordinary Belizeans in their effort to commemorate the 157th Anniversary of the signing of the 1859 Treaty which identified Belize’s border with Guatemala, the BPP and BTV wish to highlight that on 30th April 2016, it became expressly clear that the governance of our nation has reached the level of tyranny, in which the Head of Government, under the guise of democracy, wields an all-powerful authority to utilise the law and the military to suit his purposes. This is unacceptable in 2016 and accordingly, in keeping with the BPP’s DNA of being the party of the Belizean labourer, we call upon Belizeans from every corner to assert your collective power, by supporting the BPP and BTV in a scheduled protest in Belmopan, on a soon to be announced date. This shall be followed by a massive, nationwide shutdown, to demonstrate to the “Maximum Leader” Dean Oliver Barrow, who precisely holds the power. His dictatorial approach toward our people is in stark contrast to his dysfunctional 4A Policy” of: APPEASEMENT, ACQUIESCENCE, ACCOMMODATION and ADHERENCE to the Guatemalans, which has placed the nation in its most vulnerable position since 1977, when Guatemala amassed its troops along the western border. Belizeans and true friends of Belize, make no bones about it, the Prime Minister’s actions to subjugate Belizeans in such fashion, provided another clear view of his mentality. The fact is that we refuse to be ruled as opposed to being democratically governed, accordingly!
The time to save this nation before we lose more than the Sarstoon River, has long since passed. Therefore in solidarity of purpose, we call on every Belizean to support the upcoming protest actions, in the name of labour and toward ensuring that our beloved homeland does not fall deeper into the abyss of willful negligence, intentional dysfunction and dictatorial domination, which are the hallmarks of the Dean Barrow administration.
In this regard the BPP wishes to inform the general public that a press conference to address these issues of national importance, shall be called, in short order. Forward Belize, in unity and a Happy Labour Day to one and all. 8867 Today 8867 Tomorrow 8867 Forever
