BPP - Independence Day Message
Belizeans and true friends of Belize, Today, in commemorating the 35th Anniversary of our nation’s Independence, your Belize Progressive Party - BPP calls on one and all to truly analyse that which we celebrate. Indeed, the dawning of a new era in Belize’s history, 35 years ago, is noteworthy and should be acknowledged, yet in being attuned to the harsh realities that our intentionally dysfunctional system of governance has produced and perpetuated by the hands of a monolithic two-party monopoly, we call on Belizeans both at home and abroad to take stock. With the dismal economic situation, brought on by unbridled spending, devoid of meaningful investment in our human resources and the productive sector, Belize finds itself in debt to the tune of an unprecedented amount, which grows with each day.
The ongoing, existential threat from our neighbour to the west remains, and the lack of vision and forethought demonstrated by both the UDP and the PUP is testimony as to why the Guatemalans are effectively exercising a form of control over the Sarstoon River, as well as continuing in their defiance of our territorial integrity, via their never-ending incursions into Belize, along the western border. Let us not forget the cold-blooded murder of Danny Conorquie, which still remains unsolved. In addition, the pillaging of our flora, fauna and marine fish stocks continue unabated, as the government, in collusion with the Opposition persist in their FAILED “4A Policy” of: APPEASEMENT, ACQUIESCENCE, ACCOMMODATION and ADHERENCE. In terms of crime, violence and citizen security, yet again, the nation is in a most dismal state, due to the incompetence of the elected officials who are vested with crafting sound policies, to address these issues. This takes us to what is unfortunately the reality of life in Belize, which is typified by the CORRUPTION, that occurs, unchallenged, at the highest levels of government. Whether it be the blatant nepotism which abounds, the wholesale peddling of our Belizean nationality, the effort to institutionalise the moral decay of our nation, government’s negligence in honoring its commitment to paying the teachers, the disavowing of our nation’s laws whether it be non or even partial compliance to the Prevention of Corruption Act, as well as the unconcealed reluctance by the Prime Minister to sign onto the UN Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) in a timely fashion, it all amounts to our nation being firmly set in what is the final stage of corruption...which is TYRANNY.
Therefore, amid the revelry and fanfare that coincides with celebrating our nation’s independence, we at the BPP urge one and all to take a moment to assess, truly that which you are celebrating. We can think of no better occasion to invite you to give serious thought to this issue and trust that you recognise that our nation is in distress and that the only way to free it of this TYRANNY is to be upfront, frank and honest with yourself and thus realising that it is past time for a substantive change, separate and apart from the two-party monopoly which has our nation in this debacle.
With that, on behalf of “Belize’s New Political Consciousness”, that is your Belize Progressive Party, Belizeans and true friends of Belize, irrespective of where you reside, one and all are wished a Happy, Safe, Blessed and very importantly, a Reflective Independence Day!
