"BPP SPEAKS ON APPOINTMENT OF BELIZE'S FIRST 13TH SENATOR"
Your Belize Progressive Party - BPP acknowledges the selection of the 13th Senator and
thereby congratulates the NGO community, as well as all other civil society players, in particular the BNTU, for without their proactive efforts, it is certain the Barrow administration would have continued to shirk its responsibility concerning the matter. Therefore, this is testimony to the strength of people power. We remind one and all, especially those in positions of influence, that this is but one step in the overall course toward ushering in good governance principles and practises.
The BPP notes that several more initiatives, remain unfulfilled including: the establishment an elected Senate, ensuring that the mandated re-registration of the voters lists is undertaken, also the commencement of the much-needed re-districting exercise is conducted and demanding that all elected officials, across the board, comply with the Prevention of Corruption Act (POCA), in that those who have failed to declare their assets pay the requisite fines, forthwith. It is this manner of insight and leadership that your Belize Progressive Party puts forth, because given the intentional dysfunction which is synonymous with the existing, oppressive and corrupt system of governance, the powers that be are counting on Belizeans to be appeased with a development that is long overdue. We congratulate Senator-Elect Osmany Salas, the newly selected Representative for the NGO Community. We wish him well and trust that he shall be proactive in efforts to fulfill the necessary governance initiatives necessary to make Belize a more equitable society, aligned with engendering the sustainable development of the nation and its resources.
In addition, the BPP decries the GOB’s intent to lower the threshold of Belize’s Referendum Act, during the upcoming sitting of the House of Representatives. We view this as an affront to the well-being of the: people, governance and sovereignty of Belize, as it is demonstrative of the failed PUDP “4A Policy” of: APPEASEMENT, ACQUIESCENCE, ACCOMMODATION and ADHERENCE to the demands of Guatemala, which is undoubtedly intent on validating their unfounded claim to our sovereign territory, via the medium of going to the ICJ. The BPP cries shame on every single Area Representative who votes in favour of amending the Referendum Act. As a result, we encourage Belizeans and true friends of Belize, both at home and abroad, to be aware of this fact and ensure that you vote NO to the ICJ! 8867 Today 8867 Tomorrow 8867 Forever
