Legalization Of Marijuana in Belize | Belize Politics
“It is time for us to stop locking up our young people for a stick of weed. The time has come for us to decriminalize marijuana smoking and prepare the necessary research to move to legalize marijuana for medicinal purposes and in small quantities. (Applause)”
Belizeans and true friends of Belize,
As you are aware, the national poppy show is in full-swing in which each side of the PUDP non-divide engage in their choreographed theatrical presentation. In this instance they are presumably "debating" the farcical budget that was presented by the current administration.
Be aware their intention is to distract you from the real issue of corruption that has been promulgated and facilitated by both the PUP and the UDP. That is why when I hear either side attempting to castigate the other, I cringe because both are guilty as sin, of perpetuating the cycle of intentional dysfunction which is seen in the various scandals that have spanned each of their administrations.
With that said, I wish to highlight that the lack of vision that has clearly been demonstrated by the UDP is not alone, in that the PUP continues with its less-than-genuine approach toward providing policy solutions.
Let the record show that on Wednesday, 15th March 2017, Patrick Rogers (BPP Political Leader), Hippolito Bautista (BPP Secretary General) and I in my capacity as BPP Chairman appeared on LOVE TV's Morning Show and discussed various topics including: the Superbond, ongoing corruption and the ongoing efforts of the BPP. As we are solution based, we provided several outside-the-box ideas toward easing Belize's debt burden that would not require increasing taxes on the majority of Belizeans. Prominent among those proposals was the legalisation of marijuana.
Low and behold, which is not entirely surprising, the Leader of the Opposition, as he has on several occasions prior, has followed the BPP's lead and made suggestion of the same.
Therefore, I remind one and all that if you are banking on the PUP to somehow change its spots and provide original solutions to the problems they helped to create, I dare say, "Please do not hold your breath."
Stay tuned as the BPP shall continue to unveil more, original policy proposals that demonstrate our wherewithal and capacity to not only provide viable solutions to the myriad of challenges facing the nation, but also it shall prove testimony to our capacity to lead this nation out of debt and into prosperity.
