Belize City | September 22nd, 2017

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

“BPP DISAPPOINTED IN PUDP LEADERSHIP ADDRESS TO DETRIMENTAL ISSUES IMPACTING BELIZE”

Following yesterday’s speeches by both the Prime Minister and the Leader of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition, your Belize Progressive Party - BPP takes this opportunity to express its disdain for the lack of depth displayed in each of their addresses, regarding the wide expanse of governance-related issues and the subsequent, detrimental impacts on Belize.

Of note, the BPP is not disappointed, for the utter lack of leadership demonstrated by these purported “leaders”, is well documented. Coupled with the reality of the two-party system that both sides of the PUPD non-divide supports and maintains, it is no surprise that yesterday’s presentations were devoid of true and honest explanations as to issues such as to (1) the ongoing, naked aggression by the Guatemalan Military against innocent, unarmed Belizean citizens, within Belizean territory, as well as (2) their mutually intentional avoidance of adhering to the rule of law, particularly as it relates to the Prevention of Corruption Act (POCA), of which the requisite fines incurred by those who have failed to declare their assets, can go a considerable way toward creating work and development opportunities for the ever-increasing number of our citizens who are in need.

Concerning the former, on 16th September, five days prior to Independence Day, the Guatemalan Armed Forces (GAF) invaded sovereign Belizean territory and prevented Belizeans from going up the Sarstoon River, by intimidating kayakers as they took part in the Belize Territorial Volunteers Annual Sarstoon Island Eco Challenge. Instead of using the Independence Day ceremony to highlight and further internationalise such continued aggression by the Guatemalans, both Mr. Barrow and Mr. Briceno’s presentations were glaringly lacking. Thus signaling their individual and shared dereliction of responsibility toward the people of Belize’s safety and security.

As for the latter, with the unprecedented levels of corruption that is both facilitated and enjoyed by the UDP and PUP elites, their intentional ignoring of their individual and collective responsibilities under POCA, is testimony to their lack of commitment toward placing, first and foremost, that which is in the best interest of Belize. It is by way of such selfish orientation that, most regrettably, our nation is unmistakably in the grips of the sixth and final stage of corruption, which is TYRANNY!

Therefore, your Belize Progressive Party - BPP calls on all Belizeans to take a proactive stand against corruption, as well as all inaction by anyone who is vested with the responsibility of ensuring the safety and security of Belizeans is safeguarded and that no-one is exempt from the laws which govern our nation.

We trust that Belizeans and true friends of Belize have taken stock of the state of our nation and shall endeavour to hold those who are contributing to the degradation of our country, accountable.
